E-commerce also affecting the sector

Like in other countries, international online retail sales are impacting the Mexican industry.

The footwear and textile industry is feeling the negative impact of packages entering the country from online platforms like TEMU and SHEIN, according to statements by the president of the Chamber of Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG) -Mauricio Blas Battaglia Velázquez-.

In this case, the footwear industry requires that shipments of packages valued at less than US$ 50 see this exemption reduced and also be subject to taxes.

At the same time, products listed in e-commerce platforms in general are being monitored by the sector for infringements on protection laws or intellectual property rights.

This issue is further compounded by "bronco" (furtive) smuggling, piracy, and specialized fiscal facilities, as reported by CICEG.
