Manufacturers maintain complaints against imports

Local manufacturers estimated that more than 50% of the imported footwear is undervalued.

During the March edition of SAPICA, the president of the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG), Mauricio Battaglia Velázquez, made statements regarding the sector's situation.

In the inaugural address, the leader stated that there are challenges in the current industry context and that entrepreneurs oppose the impact of piracy, smuggling, and undervaluation, but not legal imports.

He also detailed that 209 million pairs were manufactured in 2023, according to CICEG. Regarding foreign trade, 30 million pairs were exported, and 120 million pairs were imported, accounting for 40% of local consumption. It is projected that undervaluation resulted in a volume exceeding 50 million pairs.
