Mexico reduced purchases of footwear and leather from Brazil
According to data from ABICALÇADOS, the Brazilian footwear manufacturers association, between January and March 2021, Mexico imported 582 thousand pairs worth US $ 3.3 million. This represented a decrease of 32.5% and 38.4% respectively, compared to the same period in 2020.
Regarding hides and skins, the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry -CICB- reported that Mexico bought 637 thousand square meters between January and March 2021, for US $ 9.3 million. This is 38.1% less in volume and 23.3% less in turnover, compared to the same period in 2020.
