Sector situation facing imports

The entry of footwear into the country had an increase of 11% until June of this year, despite the tariffs imposed on imports from Asia. If the upward curve is maintained, a new mark with 110 million total pairs would be reached in 2019.

According to statements by Luis Gerardo González García -president of the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG)- this will have an impact on the workers dismissal and will not result in increased consumption. On the other hand, greater informality, insecurity, price war and smuggling could be triggered, local media reported.
