Tanneries production decreased 50%


Also affected by the global health situation, Mexican tanneries saw reduce their activity.

President of the Chamber of Industry Tannery of the State of Guanajuato (CICUR) Guillot- Ernesto Vega said that among the 1,200 members of the organization, 620 companies remain operational.

Given the arrival of the pandemic, many firms had to stop producing and around 1,500 workers were laid off, 10% of the workforce in the tanning industry. In addition, the monetary losses are estimated at 1,000 million Mexican pesos (about US $ 50 million).

In mid-October, the productive activity reached 15 thousand hides per day, this is 50% of the sector's capacity, reported the tanners.
