Temporary importation as a malpractice
The temporary importation regime is intended to benefit exporting companies engaged in productive activities under the Program of Manufacturing Industry, Maquila and Export Services (IMMEX), which is exempt from taxes.
However, the president of CICEG, Mauricio Blas Battaglia Velázquez, stated that within the sector, this practice is becoming illegal, as footwear is allegedly imported temporarily but remains in the Mexican market.
The leader further explained that this represents an improper use of the initiative, which is beginning to create problems for the footwear industry. This issue adds to other challenges, such as underpricing, smuggling, and trading on platforms, according to local reports.
