Local industry on the rise
Exceeding US $ 300 million in exports during 2020, by 2021 the footwear and leather sector expects to confirm a collection of between US $ 700 million to US $ 1 billion. The result is due to the fact that the National Chamber of Leather and Footwear (CAMCUNIC) benefited from the limitations that China had to supply products to Central America, due to its sanitary situation and the lack of containers.
In addition, there is a greater requirement for footwear in the sugar and coffee industry, as a consequence of the increase in the international value of these items. In this sense, the president of the entity -Alejandro Delgado- affirmed that the national industry covered 70% of what was requested in 2021, which translates into 3 million pairs of footwear.
