The footwear industry in numbers
During the August edition of the EXPOCALZADO GUATEMALA fair, industry representatives shared data about the national footwear sector.
Marco Wong, President of the Footwear and Related Products Manufacturers Union (GRECALZA), stated that the industry comprises over 720 companies, producing an average of 22 million pairs of shoes annually.
Enrique Font, Vice President of the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (CIG), reported that the sector provides over 35,000 formal and direct jobs, contributing 1.5% to the GDP.
“This is a sector that pays more than 1.47 billion quetzals (around US$ 190 million) in wages and benefits, supporting tens of thousands of families,” added Wong, as reported by GRECALZA.
