Industrialists claim to control smuggling
Facing the festivities at the end of the year, the president of the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of Paraguay -Elder Otazo- asked to increase the control of the entry of contraband footwear. The objective was to generate economic relief for local producers, and the possibility of achieving higher sales.
Smuggling impacts micro and small footwear manufacturers, which have declined in number since the 1990s. Recently, the problem worsened with the arrival of the pandemic. In this sense, the economic impact generated a more restricted footwear consumption, giving priority to items such as health, food and education.
