Members of Italian leather industry associations visited Paraguay and expressed interest in its value chain and acceptance of the traceability system at the socio-environmental level.
During a meeting with Javier Giménez –Minister of Industry and Commerce–, the coordinator of the Socio-Environmental Traceability Executive Unit (UET-MIC) –Andrés Ginés– and representatives of the meat and related sectors, they highlighted public-private coordination as a favorable element for meeting European standards.
According to Emilio Bedoya –head of the Paraguayan Leather Chamber– some tanneries reach a daily production of up to 4,000 units and employ more than 3,000 people. Europe and Asia are the main export destinations, among more than 50 countries, reported La Nación/La Nación Media.
