At the end of August, a meeting was held between the Association of Exporters (ADEX), the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad (CCLL), and representatives of the national government.
During the meeting, the footwear industry presented its situation, led by Vladimir de la Roca, President of the Chamber of Leather and Footwear Production. De la Roca explained that 75% of the local footwear market consists of products from China, with 90% of imports lacking oversight.
He also noted that 20% of the 2,500 productive units are operating at full capacity, according to information from CCLL.
In this context, de la Roca suggested safeguarding Peruvian manufacturing, taking into account that it is a sensitive sector. He also urged the Ministry of Education to include footwear in school kits and requested increased purchases from MYPErú.
