Challenges for 2024

The new authorities aim for higher product quality and the creation of a sustainable offering.

Currently, the footwear industry in Portugal faces a scenario of weak international markets, which affects order volumes. Regarding this, the president of APICCAPS, Luís Onofre, believes that 2024 will have challenging months, but overall, an improvement is expected.

In this regard, the sector must work on footwear quality to aim for higher-value products; explore potential in markets with little Portuguese presence; benefit from brands' interest in production on the continent; consider digitization and sustainability.

Regarding the upcoming government elections, the focus should be on reducing the tax burden and promoting companies abroad, as stated by Onofre in an interview with APICCAPS.
