Evolution of the Portuguese footwear industry

The Portuguese Footwear, Components, Leather Goods Manufacturers’ Association (APICCAPS), presented the FACTS NUMBERS 2019 report, which details the evolution of the sector in the last ten years.

In this period of time, the volume of production grew 16.3%, from 69.1 million pairs in 2008, to 80.4 million in 2018. In parallel, the number of companies registered a positive variation of 4.9%, totaling 2018 the 1,476 firms.

On the part of exports, the volume reached 83.8 million pairs, which increased 29.6% compared to 2008, which was 64.7 million. The value was 47.3% higher, from € 1.2 billion in 2008 to € 1.9 billion in 2018.
