New types of footwear stand out in exports


The new consumption habits caused by the pandemic have generated another profile for Portuguese footwear productions.
Foreign sales of Portuguese footwear reached €1,118 million between January and August 2021, a figure that was 7.8% higher than in the same months of 2020.

Compared to 2019, the total exported is below. However, there were increases in certain types of footwear, as a result of the increased consumption of sneakers and household products due to changes in habits, introduced by the pandemic, reported APICCAPS -the Portuguese association of manufacturers and suppliers of the footwear industry-.

In this sense, waterproof footwear grew by 62% compared to the same period in 2019, reaching a value of €35.3 million. In addition, the products of textile materials had a rise of 30.1% and other materials, 12.5%.
