Projection: the consumption of sneakers will continue to grow

For the new living conditions they have changed consumption habits of footwear.
Based on surveys carried out by World Footwear and other sources consulted, in the consumption of footwear by type of product in 2020, the year of the pandemic, sneakers have notably grown in consumption compared to classic leather footwear, male and female.

Drawing a projection towards 2021, even within a depressed global demand (-22%) this trend would continue, giving an estimated growth for shoes of 60% average compared to 2019 figures. Meanwhile, the decline for classic shoes from leather would be 35% average, compared to 2019.

Among the reasons why sneakers have gained and will gain the market in the next year, mention is made of the move from the office to teleworking and the fact that more people are spending longer at home due to the pandemic. This will drive demand for more comfortable and functional footwear at the expense of traditional alternatives.
