Dependency on Chinese supply

Chinese footwear imports accounted for over 40% of external purchases in the local market in 2022.

During 2022, Chinese footwear imports reached € 1.461 million, setting a record for purchases. In this regard, the dependence on the Asian country stood at 40.2%, the highest recorded since 2012 (42.1%), after fluctuating around 40% over the years without exceeding that percentage.

Leather goods imported into the country totaled €650 million, marking a 40.8% dependency. Since 2015, this category has remained within the 40% range, much lower than the 59% figure recorded in 2010, according to figures provided by ICEX.

The fashion sector as a whole (clothing, footwear and leather goods) relied on China for 20.8% of its supply, as reported by industry leaders.
