Disadvantages of fewer working hours
Yolanda Díaz, Minister of Labor, announced plans to reduce the working week to 38.5 hours initially, followed by a second phase lowering it to 37.5 hours.
Additional measures include increasing social security contributions for some employee categories and mandates to maintain employment levels.
FICE expressed disagreement and great concern, citing a lack of flexibility depending on the sector and potential loss of competitiveness. The organization also noted the absence of dialogue or agreement among stakeholders.
The forecasts predict business closures and unemployment, as the ministry's initiative entails an increase in manufacturing costs, followed by a rise in prices for the final consumer, according to FICE.
