In 2022, the European Commission unveiled the Textiles Strategy, an initiative that aims to eliminate fast fashion by 2030. Among the tools included in this project is the passport for each item, a concept currently being developed by the Footwear Technology Center (INESCOP) in Spain.
Pass4shoes is a digital passport that could operate through a chip or QR code on the footwear, providing access to data such as recyclability, origin, and labor conditions. As detailed to Modaes by Adrián Amat and Borja Mateu, researchers at INESCOP, the goal is to simplify the sector's transition to the European directive awaiting approval.
The tool is in a testing phase, involving footwear firms, third-sector entities, and manufacturers, with a total of 15 companies participating.
