Sustainability in Turkish tanneries

The Turkish tanning industry is also committed to implementing policies with lower environmental impact.

The Turkish Leather Industrialists Association (TLIA) has put the spotlight on sustainability and brought together ten tanneries to implement the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology and measure the sector’s environmental impact.

The process included evaluating the ten manufacturing plants to create individual profiles. It involved the analysis of 924 chemical products, 620 production operations, 77 tanning recipes, and 33 leather products with the aim of optimizing environmental care.

Through this initiative, the leather industry can assess its environmental footprint and adopt better practices as part of its commitment to sustainability. This commitment was also highlighted by the participation of the tanneries in the Lineapelle fair, according to TLIA.
