Fashion industry demands from the next government

Various protective measures have been requested by the manufacturing industry to the highest body of the European Community.

The upcoming mandate of the European Council, which will run from 2024 to 2029, is the focus of the textile, clothing, leather, and footwear (TCLF) sectors, represented by the European Footwear Confederation (CEC), EURATEX, COTANCE, and INDUSTRIALL EUROPE.

The appeal centers on protecting these industries and their workforce, considering that more than 99% are SMEs. The aim is to maintain competitiveness alongside the digital and ecological transition, according to COTANCE.

In this context, a fair transition is required, with the enhancement of skills and retraining of workers, and access to sustainable raw materials and energy. Fair and free trade, along with an appropriate regulatory framework, are also sought, among other points.
