The EU will ban the destruction of unsold footwear and clothing

From July 19, 2026, large companies, and medium-sized companies from 2030, will have to stop destroying footwear, apparel and accessories that have not been sold, according to the new provisions incorporated by the European Commission in the context of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
The regulation also requires reporting on the disposal as waste of unsold products.
The new scheme seeks to redirect stock management toward other channels, such as donations, resale, reuse or remanufacturing, the European Union reported.
