Between September 19th and 22nd, the 21st International Technical Footwear Congress (UITIC) took place in the context of various fairs related to the fashion industry and exhibitions focused on suppliers and technology for the sector.
An international event, the congress served as a common space for the exchange of best practices and knowledge among over 250 researchers, experts, and professionals from the footwear industry, coming from 22 countries.
The congress was organized by the International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians (UITIC) in collaboration with the National Association of Italian Manufacturers of Footwear, Leather Goods, and Tanning Technologies (ASSOMAC).
It also received support from ASSOCALZATURIFICI, an organization that brings together Italian footwear manufacturers, and MESSE FRANKFURT ITALIA as an organizational partner.
The event was centered around the theme "Moving towards sustainability through innovation." Sustainability and innovation are now closely linked to ensure the viability of companies.
Environmental care in the footwear industry is no longer an option but a necessity, as well as a tool to add value and competitiveness to firms.
Italy is renowned for its high-quality footwear industry, which makes a significant contribution to the national economy within the manufacturing sector.
Italian footwear manufacturers also supply the most distinguished luxury and fashion brands globally.
The congress specifically took place in Vigevano and Milan. The choice of the first location was due to its history in the production of high-quality footwear and the development of the technology supply industry for this sector. Milan, on the other hand, is known as a hub for the fashion industry.
The opening ceremony featured the participation of Yves Morin, President of UITIC; Maria Vittoria Brustia, President of ASSOMAC; Giovanna Ceolini, President of ASSOCALZATURIFICI; and Carmen Arias Castellano, General Secretary of CEC (European Confederation of the Footwear Industry).
In addition to the aforementioned topics of sustainability and innovation, panels and conferences also addressed subjects like "Products, Materials, and Consumers of Tomorrow," "Digital Transformation," and "Human Capital for Industry 5.0."
The program also included visits to the LINEAPELLE and SIMAC TANNING TECH fairs, as well as footwear factories, suppliers, and related institutions, as reported by the organization.
The next 22nd edition of the footwear technicians' congress will take place in Shanghai, China, in 2025.
