Crisis in ZENDA JBS Tannery


Tanning workers claimed in official offices for mediation in the conflict.

At the beginning of last June, the tanner ZENDA JBS announced layoffs of 370 employees, according to Carlos Bico, general secretary of the Tanner Workers' Union (UOL).

Among the causes of the decision, the company argued problems of competitiveness and decrease of buyers of leather for high-end vehicles, the specialty of this establishment.

After negotiations, ZENDA JBS, which belongs to a Brazilian company, announced that it would maintain a plant of 140 workers in the future, as a result of the cessation of activities in two factories.

However, days after the announcement, from the company decided that employees go to unemployment insurance and suspended severance pay.

The measure was rated positive among union leaders because it gives time to seek alternatives to job continuity.
