Foreign trade in footwear and leather grew
Sales abroad of "Skins (except furs) and leather" totaled US $ 53 million in the first five months of 2021, showing a positive difference of US $ 13.1 million compared to the same period of the previous year. The increase was 33%, according to the Directorate of Economic Studies of the Uruguayan Chamber of Industries (CIU).
Meanwhile, imports of the same item increased 66% in the same months, reaching US $ 21 million; while “Footwear, gaiters and similar articles; parts of these articles” registered a rise of 2%, for a value of US $ 31 million, according to figures from SmartDATA reported by CIU.
