Faced against the loss of work sources in the sector, an emergency proposal of the Leather Industry was launched from the Popular Unity party. Mainly, it is proposed foreign sales of unprocessed leather be temporarily canceled and that 65% of processed skins for export be reached. Simultaneously, the application of 20% in the taxes of raw material with no added value that leaves the country. The initiative tends to control the output of unprocessed leathers to leave enough space for local industry to produce and generate work.
The project also includes a percentage of subsidies to companies be allocated so that employees in unemployment insurance have a compensation fund. It also claims to maintain a sufficient supply of leather for the leather industry.
