Evolution of footwear prices
In January 2023, the retail price of footwear increased by 0.4% year-on-year, with disaggregated variations of 0.1% for women's shoes, 0.5% for men's shoes, and 0.9% for children's shoes.
For February, the increase was 0.8%, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Women's footwear was the only category that experienced a 2.9% increase, while men's and children's footwear saw a decrease of 0.2% and 1% respectively.
The more moderate increases are in line with the expectations of the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA), due to higher inventory levels compared to demand, which ended 2022 with a 4.6% increase.
