More than 50% of imported footwear is Chinese
According to data provided by the FDRA, 2.7 billion pairs of footwear were imported in 2022, which translates to an average of 8.1 pairs imported per person nationwide.
China was the main supplier, with a 57.9% share of the total volume imported to the United States. The list is completed with other Asian countries, such as Vietnam, which accounted for 23.9% of imports, and Indonesia with 7.2%.
Local production closed at 25 million pairs, with a workforce of around 278,000 workers. In total, personal spending on footwear was US$ 104.6 billion.
