New footwear classification faces criticism
The Office of Customs and Border Protection of the United States (CBP) raised the idea of reclassifying as sports shoes to some typologies considered as "fashion". Given this, a request for cancellation of the measure was filed, carried out by the American Association of Clothing and Footwear (AAFA).
According to traders, the tariffs that tax these products could be drastically increased, while from the AAFA argue that the use of fashion sneakers does not apply to sports activities. In addition, the points in common between sports sneakers and fashion sneakers are circumscribed to basic features such as padded insoles, soles with traction and flexibility and secure enclosures. Given the new market habits, from AAFA encourage a discussion about the term Sports Sneakers and their differentiation with the fashion ones, sources of the entity reported.
