The suspension of import tariffs affected the sector

According to the president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Footwear and Components (CAVECAL), Luigi Pisella, in 2019 sales of national footwear will be reduced by 50% compared to 2018. That is to say that of 12 million pairs that were sold last year,6 million pairs will be sold.

According to the executive's expressions, the causes of this decline are due to the precariousness of the services and the increase in imports, due to the suspension of tariffs decreed by the government in the middle of last year.

Until the end of 2018, national footwear maintained an 80% market share, and as of the new measure, imports are growing significantly, as noted from industrial sources.
