The world's largest sports footwear producer announced the dismissal of 1,221 employees, citing that new orders are from few clients and due to the lack of demand recovery.
For POU CHEN, based in Taiwan, this would be the third time it has implemented workforce reductions in 2023, according to VnExpress. The measure affects its manufacturing plant in Vietnam, in Ho Chi Minh City, which currently has approximately 40,000 workers, after eliminating around 8,000 jobs.
However, in India, the company plans to carry out an expansion. The subsidiary High Glory Footwear India would be established in Tamil Nadu, with a production unit that would involve an investment of US$ 280 million. For the next 12 years, they plan to hire 20,000 employees, as reported by Eastern media.
