Basic report on aqueous adhesives

Types, composition, characteristics and indications for use in the footwear and manufactures industry.

Next, the generic data of the main alternatives available in this type of products, which increase its use based on a lower impact on the environment and the appearance of new technologies that make its application effective.

• POLYCHLOROPRENE

COMPOSITION
Dispersion or polychloroprene resin emulsion in water, with the addition of other resins, oxides and additives to give specific properties.

FEATURES
It has white to yellowish translucent coloration. Sensitive to cutting and heat, it should be stored and handled according to instructions in the technical recommendation. It offers good resistance to glued.

INDICATIONS
Indicated for textiles, EVA, rubbers in general, polystyrene, leathers, woods, and cardboards. Its use stands out in linings, welts and bonded.

• POLYURETHANE

COMPOSITION
Dispersion of polyurethane in water, with the addition of other resins and additives to give specific properties.

FEATURES
It has whitish to white translucent coloration. Sensitive to cutting and heat, it should be stored and handled according to instructions in the technical recommendation. It offers excellent resistance of glued. Isocyanate based crosslinked can be added for better performance.

INDICATIONS
Product very used for bonding sole/upper, due to the excellent resistance it provides. Indicated for bonding polyurethane, PVC, nylon, leather, wood, paper, cardboard, fabric, EVA, rubbers and foams. For some of these substrates, such as EVA and rubber, prior application of a "primer" may be necessary to promote compatibility.

• NATURAL LATEX

COMPOSITION
Natural rubber emulsion in water, with the addition of other resins and additives to provide physical properties.

FEATURES
It presents translucent to white coloration. Its high tack stands out. It has limited resistance of glued for the construction of footwear. With characteristic smell of ammonia, added by the stabilization of the product.

INDICATIONS
Indicated for bonding linings, especially in thin shoes, due to the flexibility of the film.

• ACRYLIC

COMPOSITION
Emulsion of pure acrylic polymer or mixed with styrene, with the addition of other resins and additives to give specific properties.

FEATURES
It has properties similar to those of natural latex adhesives, without the characteristic smell of ammonia, and with greater stability. Excellent water resistance.

INDICATIONS
Indicated for bonding and counter gluing of fabrics, because it maintains the softness of the substrates.

• PVA

COMPOSITION
Vinyl polyacetate emulsion in water, with the addition of other resins and additives to give specific properties.

FEATURES
It has white coloration. It has no tack and is slow drying.

INDICATIONS
It can be used for bonding and counter gluing of linings, giving some stiff effect. It is also used for gluing packaging and enclosure of boxes.
