Despite his strong French identity, Pietro Cardin (his real name) was born on July 2nd, 1922 in San Biagio di Callalta, a small town near Venice, Italy.
In 1945, his family fled the Mussolini regime and settled in France. There he learned the tailor's trade at the Red Cross and later began to collaborate with Christian Dior in Paris. This allowed him to learn the secrets of the fashion business and in 1950 he founded his own company.
Based on an innovative talent for that time and a special commercial sense, the PIERRE CARDIN brand had a meteoric rise that crossed borders and achieved wide global recognition.
At first it did so in the sector of haute couture and general clothing, but later the brand generalized to multiple products such as footwear, handbags, underwear, sheets, watches, pens and an endless number of accessories. In the 1970s and 1980s, when it was at its peak, the brand's items were sold in more than 100,000 stores in 150 countries.
Due to his tenacity, intelligence, ambition and daring, PIERRE CARDIN was one of the pioneers in the commercialization of his products in eastern markets such as China, Japan, Russia, etc. that allowed him to amass a substantial fortune.
Concentrated on the excessive exploitation of the brand through licenses, a massification process took place that in the end was not positive for its positioning. Thus, in recent years, in the face of several attempts to sell the brand, the company failed to tempt any bidder.
