Argentina imported 47% more Brazilian footwear
This represented a 47% increase in volume and a 17.8% rise in value compared to the first five months of 2024.
The data was prepared by ABICALÇADOS -the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association- based on figures released by SECEX, Brazil’s Foreign Trade Secretariat.
According to projections from industry sources, if current market conditions persist, Argentina could end 2025 having imported over 13 million pairs of Brazilian footwear.
While Brazilian exporters acknowledge that Argentina’s exchange rate reforms and new import policies have streamlined trade, they also note with concern that the reduction of the extra-Mercosur tariff from 35% to 20% imposed by the Argentine government on footwear from other sources will create a framework of greater competition in Argentina, especially with footwear from Asia.
Dentro de numerosas opciones y posibilidades, que se analizan en Argentina, por parte de exportadores brasileños, importadores y fabricantes argentinos, la mayoría coincide en que el tema central en el comercio de calzados es el deterioro del consumo, que está en niveles muy bajos, y de su evolución dependerán las importaciones y la producción local.
