Export duty on leather was deducted by the government

Argentina

The government measure aims to encourage sales abroad in a market with reduced demand.
Decree 549/2020 published in the Official Bulletin on June 23rd, determined the suspension of payment of the Export Duty for leathers for 60 days, as a result of the fall in prices in the demand of the foreign market.
The measure was taken within the framework of the pandemic and as a palliative for the affected production processes. In this sense, the meat processing industry registered an overstock of leathers due to the drop in exports, which had an impact on negative health and environmental situations, according to the Official Bulletin.

The government's decision aimed at promoting exports of bovine leathers in the international market, which suffers from strong competition from alternative products such as synthetics and textiles for manufactures.
