Footwear sales in Argentina increased 28%

According to data from January to September 2022, prepared by the consultancy firm Investigaciones Económicas Sectoriales (IES).

After the pandemic, the recovery of footwear consumption was sustained, tied to the purchasing power of the population.

In the first nine months of this year, the sale of footwear in the local market grew 28%, compared to the same period in 2021. Sales figures include national and imported products.

According to this survey, estimates are of 111.6 million pairs sold, between January and September 2022, thus exceeding the 91.2 million of last year, in the same period of time.

The IES report also indicated that the national production of footwear achieved a 20% annual recovery, to reach a total of 90 million pairs in the first nine months of 2022.

Footwear imports in this period grew by 23%, above the same cycle of the previous year, which was 18%. The explanation is that, despite the restrictions on imports, there are certain types of footwear that must be purchased abroad, because the local industry cannot manufacture them.

In this way, the per capita consumption of footwear in Argentina reached 3.4 pairs, which meant a recovery of 26.5%. These are the highest records observed since 2016, just below the years 2014 and 2015.

Regarding exports, in the first nine months of the year, US$ 6 million worth of footwear was sold abroad, which represented a 20% recovery compared to 2021.

"In the month of September 2022, the year-on-year growth of footwear prices reached 99.5% compared to the same month in 2021, continuing somewhat above general inflation, which was 83% in the same period", concluded the IES report.
