According to the records of CAME -Argentine Chamber of Medium Enterprises- in July 2021, retail footwear sales increased 21.3% compared to the same month in 2020. Compared with 2019, this index is still -20.4% than in 2019 (pre-pandemic period).
However, footwear sales from January to July 2021 were 32.6% higher than in 2020, although they continue to be below 2019 volumes.
According to the survey carried out by CAME on different stores in the sector and their sales projections for the next 3 months -August, September and October-, 49.9% responded that they will increase, 40% that they will remain and 10.1% answered that they will go down.
As for the industrial production index, related to footwear manufacturing SMEs, in June 2021 it grew by 71.6% compared to the same month in 2020, but it still remains 16.1% below 2019.
In the first half of 2021, footwear SMEs increased their production by 28.2% compared to the same period in 2020, and they are still 21.6% below the same period of 2019.
Estimates of the use of installed capacity in the footwear industry in the last month of July are around 68%.
