After having suffered a sharp decline in 2020 due to the pandemic, the Argentine footwear industry has slowly begun to rebuild itself in 2021, in line with the epidemiological situation and all its consequences.
In 2020, footwear manufacturing reached 65 million pairs, almost 30% less than in 2019, which was 85 million.
Currently, in addition to the effects of the Covid-19, have joined other factors that are influencing the activity of the sector, including the new policies of the government related to greater control of imports and the limited availability of foreign exchange for these operations.
In this regard, in recent months import volumes decreased significantly and expand the possibilities for industries located in the country. This is confirmed by the investments held by international brands -Nike, TOPPER, PUMA, SALOMON, Diadora, etc. and local producers to meet an expected recovery of domestic consumption.
From IES Consultores, they estimated that footwear production in 2021 could grow by 14.3% compared to 2020, reaching 80 million pairs per year, based on the fact that 68.5 million were produced in 2020.
From industrial sources, they reported that the growth of the sector will be closely linked to the degree of impact of the pandemic and its control over the different activities in the country.
