17 THOUSAND DISMISSALS in the brazilian shoe industry

The State of Rio Grande do Sul on the top of the list with 4.700, São Paulo with 3,000 and Mina Gerais with 2,964.

The crisis in the Brazilian footwear industry continues to deepen as the pandemic progresses.

Weekly, the main shoe areas in Brazil report significant dismissals on the footwear factories. The origin is the health crisis derived from the coronavirus that has caused the confinement of families, social immobility, the decrease in consumption of clothing and general closure of sales points. As a consequence, the shoe factories do not receive orders and production stops.

There are exceptions, in establishments that market online, increase stocks, or carry out specific exports.

According to sources from ABICALÇADOS, the entity that groups the shoe industries across the country, in one week the number of dismissed workers went from 15 to 17 thousand.

Recently, the association's executive president, Haroldo Ferreira, estimated a decrease in the sector of between 25 and 30% for the first half of the year. "Until the commerce does not sell again and without new orders, the factories will not produce," he said.
