Brazilian suppliers take advantage of Chinese import difficulties

The discontinuity in shipments from the East, generated new opportunities for materials and components from Brazil, in Latin America.

The proposal of Brazilian materials and components, given the possibility of a greater insertion in the Latin American market.

Among the different consequences that the global health crisis has produced in the international footwear sector, regular access to the supply of materials and components for the manufacture of footwear and manufactures, from Asian countries, has been hindered.

This has reconfigured the offer, empowering other providers as a valid supply alternative. This is the case of the Brazilian suppliers, which sees an opportunity at this juncture and plans a strategy to respond to that demand.

Due to the importance of the issue, at the end of December 2021, authorities of ASSINTECAL -Brazilian Association of Suppliers- and the entities associated in the realization of the INSPIRAMAIS exhibition, met with executives of APEX, the official agency of support for Brazilian exports, in Brasilia.

The commercial promotion and image of the footwear component industries was the central issue of the talks.

There, the projections of the supplier sector were analyzed, in this particular moment where the Chinese supplier has dispatch problems due to the weakening of its workforce, which is added to the price increases in materials and freight.

The president of ASSINTECAL, Gerson Berwanger, highlighted the importance of exchanging information with the national agency -APEX-, linked to the federal government. "On the occasion, we talked about how we can take advantage of the difficulties of imports from China, especially given the high prices of freight. Many international buyers, especially from Latin America, are looking for Brazilian components as an alternative to Chinese ones. It is time to take advantage of this situation and further strengthen the image of our products abroad”, he commented.

Between January and October 2021, the footwear component industries exported the equivalent of US $ 230 million, which was 12.4% more than in the same period in 2020. "These indicators were boosted by our Latin American neighbors", Berwanger stressed.

Another important point discussed at the meeting was the issue of sustainability in the components industry, as a presentation of the Sustainable Origin program, a joint initiative of ASSINTECAL and ABICALÇADOS -Brazilian association of footwear industries-, which certifies sustainable processes in the sector's chain productive.

"Sustainability is a global market trend, which can help create a positive image of the footwear chain", highlighted ASSINTECAL superintendent Silvana Dilly.

Currently, Sustainable Origin is the only global certification program for the footwear chain, already certified in the productions of giants in the sector, such as VULCABRAS, BEIRA RIO, PICCADILLY, BIBI, BOXPRINT and CAIMI LIAISON.
