More than 34 THOUSAND DISMISSALS in the footwear industry of BRAZIL

The sector is affected by the sharp drop in local consumption and the decrease in exports.

The serious situation that the industry is going through is having direct consequences on the disaffection of personnel.

The footwear sector reported 34.1 thousand layoffs, in the period that corresponds between mid-March to May 26, 2020. That value represents 12.6% of the total of workers who, according to figures as of December 2019, reached 269 thousand employees, as announced by the Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (ABICALÇADOS).

São Paulo was the state with the highest number of layoffs, with 10,5 thousand fewer workers; it is followed by Rio Grande do Sul, with -9.4 thousand jobs, in addition to the 5.2 thousand layoffs in Minas Gerais, -4.8 thousand in Bahia and -1.6 thousand in Ceará.

The causes of the loss of labor sources are the retraction in foreign sales and the shortage of demand in retail, which generally has a share of over 85% of total sales, but which is currently closed or limited in most of the Brazilian territory, according to Haroldo Ferreira -executive president of the association-.
