Global footwear consumption would drop 22.2% due to the pandemic

The retraction in global demand for footwear has also been significant.
In 2019, the specialized site World Footwear created the panel of experts, through which it periodically conducts surveys on the situation of the footwear sector globally and regionally.

In the last survey I conducted in October 2020, of the total responses received, 56% came from Europe, 25% in Asia, 9% and 8% of America of the South and North, respectively, and the rest from other continents . In addition, 31% of respondents are manufacturers of shoes, 21% traders and distributors and 48% of other activities related to footwear, such as trade associations, consulting, journalism, etc.

On average, the Panel of Experts of World Footwear expects the footwear consumption worldwide will fall by 22.2% in 2020 (a similar provision to that of the previous edition: 22.5%). Estimates improved in Asia (-18.2% up) and Europe (-24.2%), but worsened in North America (-24.2%) compared to the previous edition. Applying these percentages to the consumption by continent reported in the World Footwear Yearbook 2020, if these predictions turn out accurate, demand for shoes this year will be reduced by 795 million pairs in America North and Europe and 2,200 million in Asia.
