Footwear exports in Mexico soared 57%

This is confirmed by the latest records from January to October 2021, and the trend continues to rise.

Several factors have combined so that the Mexican footwear industry, as of mid-2021, is experiencing a good moment that tends to consolidate.

Among them, the local industry itself, which has made enormous efforts to overcome the consequences of the pandemic, and began to work hard on processes to achieve greater competitiveness.

Other issues are its favorable strategic geographic location, next to the world's largest consumer market: the United States. And on the other hand, the serious health crisis unleashed in Asia, with consequences on its productive force, which caused interruptions in the deliveries of footwear to the northern country.

This situation forced US operators and brands to look for alternatives for the purchase of footwear. In this sense, Mexico has always been a historic supplier to the United States, but on this occasion and for the reasons mentioned, orders have grown notably.

According to sources from CICEG, the chamber of the Guanajuato footwear industry, from January to October 2021, total exports reached 23.3 million pairs, 56.7% more than in the same period of 2020, and 28% more than in 2019. The highest level of exports in the last decade.

The collection for shipments abroad was US $ 495 million, which represented an increase of 54% compared to 2020 and 22% more than in 2019.

The average price of Mexican footwear for export remained stable at US $ 21.2 per pair.

The United States continues to be the main destination for exports with 84% of the total, followed by El Salvador with 3.2% and Guatemala with 3%.

By product type, plastic boots for industrial use registered an increase of 93% compared to 2020 and 53% compared to 2019. It was followed by cowboy boots with 87.3% over 2020 and 6% more than in 2019.

Children's shoes with leather upper and sole had a 48% drop, while those made with leather upper and plastic soles decreased 54%.
