The Coordinator for the Promotion of Foreign Trade of the State of Guanajuato -COFOCE-, through an alliance with MY SHOE DEPOT -online store- that emerged in early 2021, created a new business alternative for Mexican footwear and leather goods manufacturers.
Through it, the products have the possibility of reaching directly to consumers and retailers in the United States, and other countries, such as Guatemala, Canada, El Salvador and Colombia, and the international market in general.
For this, from its headquarters in Houston, Texas, the e-commerce company makes immediate shipments to all requested destinations.
As reported, "we are a direct bridge to the manufacturers, we do not resell, we contact you directly with the factory and we make sure that both parties meet all the requirements, helping to conduct business in an easy and safe way."
This initiative arose from the possibility that the Mexican industry has to be a major player, directly, beyond the activity carried out by the maquila system. In addition, as a consequence of the pandemic, there are market variables that have changed and favor Mexican products, such as the increase in tariffs on Asian footwear, the logistics problem and increase in freight costs from Asia and other barriers. As a whole, this situation has made the prices of oriental products more expensive, making Mexicans more competitive.
In mid-July, the online site started its activities with 5 brands: TRIPLES, DISCOVERY EXPEDITION, SWISSBRAND, LYNDON, SYSLAFFITTE. In August, 5 were added and the incorporation of another 14 is expected.
"This type of business opportunities help companies in the sector a lot, they offer them other sales channels where their products can be quickly positioned in countries like the United States, and as COFOCE, it is our responsibility to seek these internationalization opportunities for companies of the State”- said Jacob Torres, Director of the leather, footwear and leather goods sector at COFOCE.
