Miguel Elías Pinglo Bazán in charge of CITECCAL -Centre of Productive Innovation and Technological Transfer of Leather, Footwear and Related Industries- of Trujillo, an important shoe area at 560 kms. north of Lima, in statements to the newspaper El Peruano, confirmed that companies in the leather and footwear sector are shaping their sanitary protocols to restart their activities in the shortest possible time.
According to his calculations, in the present month of July, 30% of the industries will have their protocols ready, "therefore, making a projection, it is probable that at the beginning of September we will have 70% of the sector operating".
The director highlighted the collaboration that exists between entrepreneurs to collaborate and not resist the implementation of improvements and sanitary controls required by the authorities. He referred to the revival of the industry taking advantage of the advantages offered by alternative commercialization channels such as digital platforms and delivery. "Entrepreneurs in the sector are not just waiting for shopping malls to boost their sales, but are also focused on developing and promoting new online trading tools".
According to Pinglo Bazán, Peru's leather and footwear industry is made up of 8,000 formal companies, of which 80% are mypes intensive in job creation. Clarifying that a high degree of informality is verified, using Trujillo as an example, where there are 2,900 formal units and 3,000 informal ones.
