Greater prominence in non-EU markets

In the last ten years, Portuguese footwear exports to non-EU destinations were more prominent than in European markets. Thus, the increase in business value between 2008-2018 was 177%. Disaggregated by countries, shipments to China increased 1105%; to the United States 536%; to Canada 367% and to Russia 90%.

Trade with European countries in 2008 accounted for 92% of total sales abroad, and the main destinations were France, Germany, Holland, United Kingdom and Spain. Ten years later, the first three nations maintain a place of relevance for the Portuguese footwear industry, reported from APICCAPS.
