Thus he will begin a new period of three years, in the leadership of APICCAPS, the Portuguese Association of Manufacturers of Footwear, Components and Leather Goods, which is made up of all segments, including suppliers and manufacturers.

“These elections take place precisely at an exceptional moment in our lives. Despite the fact that the impact of the pandemic on the world economy and on our companies has not yet been accurately evaluated, we know that we have a great challenge ahead", said Luís Onofre.

For the re-elected president of APICCAPS "at a time when the issue of reindustrialization has returned to the European agenda, it is important that Portugal create the conditions to definitively assert itself as a leader in the development of integrated solutions for the footwear group".

With more than 1,762 companies, generating 44,161 jobs, in 2019 the footwear industry's exports represented more than 90% of total production, which in terms of turnover meant 2,044 million euros.

In the last decade, exports of the footwear and leather goods industry of Portugal have increased by 55%. The current scenarios are less optimistic, since it is estimated that global footwear consumption may fall 22.5% this year.
