From September 19 to 21, a new edition of MICAM MILANO, the International Footwear Show, was held in Milan, which this time was held in conjunction with MIPEL, the event dedicated to leather goods and accessories, and THE ONE MILANO the fair of haute couture.
This edition had a special interest, since it meant the physical return after 18 long months of absence, due to the global health crisis. There was a need to renew the face-to-face appointment, especially for the Italian footwear industry and Europe in general, due to the importance of MICAM as an international business platform.
The physical fair was complemented by the digital edition that was enabled on September 15 and would be valid until November 15, 2021.
There were a total of 735 exhibitors from different countries, mostly Italians, accompanied by 80 Spaniards, 52 Turks, 36 Portuguese, 32 Germans, 25 French, 18 Brazilians and 3 Americans, among others.
During the 3 days, the fair was visited by 22,274 people, between buyers and commercial representatives of various origins.
There was a climate of optimism due to the reunion and in general terms, due to the good results obtained. According to the characteristics and the degree of competitiveness of the offers were the sales of the exhibitors.
Siro Badon, president of ASSOCALZATURIFICI -Italian Association of Footwear Manufacturers- and MICAM MILANO, left his testimony about the event: “This edition marks our rebirth. The real stars were the exhibitors, who once again believed in the fair. Seeing the light and the enthusiasm in their eyes realizes that they have begun to leave behind a difficult situation that is priceless ”.
The latest economic data for the second quarter of the year, prepared by CONFINDUSTRIA and ASSOCALZATURIFICI confirm the recovery of the Italian footwear industry: industrial production increased 13%; the turnover 22%; family expenses 17.4% and exports 31.5%, compared to the first quarter. The latter in clear growth, mainly to Switzerland, China, France and the United States.
Health security was a priority at MICAM, where all attendees were required to enter the anti-Covid passport -Green Pass- approved by the European authorities. The use of masks or chinstraps was mandatory, as was social distancing, and the capacity established in the pavilions was permanently controlled.
Numerous simultaneous activities took place at MICAM MILANO, such as fashion shows, competitions and conferences on fashion trends. In addition, exclusive spaces were dedicated to different projects related to the promotion of footwear, such as Emerging Designers, with the presence of 12 international designers.
