Through a hard and intense task of the leadership, the national footwear industry was able to hold its traditional exhibition at the Poliforum of León, Guanajuato, on October 6th, 7th and 8th, 2020.
220 exhibitors of footwear and leather goods attended, with 265 brands. On the part of the visitors, it is calculated that in the 3 days of the fair more than a thousand buyers entered, mainly from Guanajuato, Jalisco, Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Michoacán, Nuevo León and San Luis Potosí. Among them, 30 were foreigners, of which 25 came from the United States.
Sales were reported for 60% of usual volumes, which for shoemakers was higher than previous expectations.
The live fair was complemented by SAPICA DIGITAL, an online business platform destined to promote the offer of Mexican products in the local and international market. Simultaneously, in the 3 days of the live fair, the virtual space registered a traffic of more than a thousand visits, which will increase in the course of the days.
At a press conference, SAPICA organizers and participants reported the uncertainty prior to the event due to the prevailing health situation, however they expressed their satisfaction with the results obtained.
Above all, because of the significance that this industrial sector has in the region and because of the possibility of restarting activities with a view to economic recovery.
They also recognized the full support and collaboration of the authorities, so that together with leaders of CICEG and the fairgrounds, all the necessary sanitary protocols to carry out the event were put into practice, giving full guarantees and security to visitors.
In his capacity as president of the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of Guanajuato, which groups the factories of the State, Alfredo Padilla Villalpando acknowledged that "it was very difficult to develop this edition due to the times and the way in which the pandemic developed."
“A titanic job was done to convince the exhibitors and it was a struggle to attract customers, so that they were not afraid. In months ago the situation was very critical", he said.
“We are not all, but we are seeing a great result according to the times in which we live. The participants value this effort and there is full acceptance. The fair marks the reactivation of the industry”, he concluded.
