The latest report from ABICALÇADOS -Brazilian Footwear Industries Association- on the first month of 2022, indicated that 14 million pairs were shipped abroad, worth US$ 101.2 million. This meant an increase of 43.8% in volume, and 66% more in turnover, compared to the same month of 2021.
The executive president of ABICALÇADOS, Haroldo Ferreira, highlighted that the indicator is positive and reflects the recovery registered in the second half of last year. “Brazilian footwear manufacturers, with the rise in international freight costs, mainly from Asia, are on the radar of the main international buyers with greater geographical proximity, especially from the United States and Latin America”, he underlined.
The main international destination for Brazilian footwear in January 2022 was the United States, which accounted for more than 25% of total shipments. In the first month of the year, Americans imported 1.75 million pairs for US$ 25.87 million. An 85% increase in volume and 93.6% in turover, compared to the same month last year.
The second buyer of Brazilian footwear was Argentina, where 778 thousand pairs were exported, worth US$ 6.65 million, which represented an increase of 50.6% in volume and 75.6% in value, compared to January 2021.
The third destination was France, with 758 thousand pairs, worth US$ 5.5 million, with an increase of 47.2% in quantity and 64.3% in turnover, compared to the first month of 2021.
After growing 32% in 2021, with 123.4 million pairs sold to 170 destinations, compared to the previous year, the Brazilian footwear industry has a busy business agenda for 2022. In this regard, it expands its participation in the main international fairs, promotes new presentations and permanently uses different digital platforms that increase its sales.
