In the capital of the Santander department, in the north of Colombia, where an important shoemaker industrial pole has developed, a large part is made up of micro and small family workshops, often with direct sales to the public, which are having a difficult time before the possibility of restarting its activities, after the consequences left by the Covid-19.
Although large and medium-sized factories have already reactivated their businesses, in the case of small artisans it becomes almost impossible because they do not have the minimum capital that allows them to restart manufacturing.
In this regard, a large number of employees, operators and merchants in this segment, held marches through the main streets of Bucaramanga and a peaceful protest in front of the Mayor's Office. The intention was to dialogue with the authorities and urgently manage credit support.
The protesters requested that agreements be generated with the Chamber of Commerce, the Municipality and financial entities to obtain aid, because otherwise “many workshops will not be able to open their doors definitively and hundreds of workers and entrepreneurs will be left without work, causing a social problem of unforeseeable consequences”, pointed out the representatives.
